ELLEFSON, OLSON posted by Dale Underwood on Monday, March 30, 1998: Researching an ELLEFSON and OLSON family that came to Lyon county from near Drammen, Norway about 1880. Ole Knutsen/Olson + Bertha Ellefson had children named Knut, Ole, Bertha, Annie, Andrew, Elsie, Julia, Belle, Alice, Gina and Lillian. They were all born between 1860 and 1890, most of them in Norway.

HUNZIKER posted by Dorothy Swanson on Monday, March 30, 1998: I am working on my genealogy and am looking for information on my great grandfather, Johannes (John) HUNZIKER. He supposedly started the Great Northern Hotel in Cottonwood. We are pretty sure he was living in or around the Cottonwood area between the years 1886 - 1892. These date are a guess as a couple of his children were born in Cottonwood. He may have lived in Yellow Medicine County and had the Cottonwood Hotel in Cottonwood, Lyon County. Can you give me any information on the Great Northern Hotel in Cottonwood? Do you have any information on Johannes (John) Hunziker. He was also a Clergymen although I don’t have information that he had a Church in Cottonwood. I would appreciate any information or pictures you would have on Mr. Hunziker and/or the Great Northern Hotel in Cottonwood. Was there a Cottonwood Hotel back then?

Her sister is my great-grandmother, Bertha Martha ROWE WILLOUGHBY. Bertha was born 12 October 1883. Their parents' names are Willard Francis "Frank" ROWE and Sarah Maria EDDY ROWE. Clara was married to Stuart Blain LONES. In 1924, they resided in Tracy, Lyon Co., MN. Any help will be appreciated!!

This Olson name was KNUTSEN in Norway. Ole Olson married Bertha Ellefson in Sigdal, Baskerud, Norway (near Drammen) in 1857. They came from a farm named Fossen. They had children named Bertha, Knut, Ole, Ann, Julia, Belle, Alice, Andrew, Elsie, Gina and Lillian. Other surnames associated with this family are LARSON, JONES, FINRUD, FOSS, MARTINSON and ACKERMAN. Would like to correspond with anyone researching these names in Lyon county.
